You've chosen a good position for the bird, and it almost tells a story which is probably one of the best things about the painting. It looks like the bird has seen something, and is ready to take off at any moment. This is a good thing as a painting that tells a story is more likely to grab a viewers attention. Your use of the twigs as a sort of border works well to keep the eye from wondering off of the page. The birds' gaze direct the viewers gaze to the side and downwards, this does more bad then good for the painting. The direction of the eye is directly off of the page, so it could very easily cause the viewers gaze to wander off of the painting too. Because of the direction of the feathers, there's the slight possibility the viewer will be directed to look at the rest of the bird while following the birds gaze, but again that gaze is a little too distracting.

and here's a summary/few pointers

- Be careful about where the eye is looking, if it's pointing away from the painting, your viewer could end up wandering off. Here's a very useful tutorial on composition that I think could help you a lot: [link]

- I've noticed a lot of your paintings use very dull looking colours. While you do use natural looking colours, they can also take away some of the appeal of the painting. I suggest you try experimenting to see what effect you could get by putting some more vivid or brighter looking colours to give them some more life. Be aware also that the brightest colours should be either in the foreground or middleground, and on the main focus of the painting as the brighter the area the more the eye is drawn to it. Here's a tutorial that may or may not help, it's on digital painting but it's still relevant: [link]
